{My Happy Place}
Though we live only 10 miles inland from Lake Superior and enjoy visiting her, one of our favorite places to vacation is on the shore of Lake Michigan, about 5 hours away by car. For the past several summers we have rented a beach cottage, owned by family friends, for a week with just our family and (gasp) no wi-fi. I am so happy to park myself on the porch, coffee and knitting in hand, and watch my family play in the water.

{My Happy Place} Just because we live near Lake Superior doesn’t mean we can’t visit one of her sisters once in awhile.
The cottage is situated on a little blip of a bay in the larger Green Bay of Lake Michigan. The beach is like sugar, the lake bottom is sandy, and the water is shallow a long way out — not too cold for swimming. In the morning it is glassy and wonderful for canoeing. On a clear day you can see Door County, Wisconsin, across the way. At night you can hear the waves from your bed through the open windows.
My husband spent weeks here as a child and teen with his best friend since kindergarten, and this past Labor Day weekend we were able to connect with him and his family at the cottage — the men realized they can celebrate about 40 years of friendship!
On Saturday afternoon, I decided to have an impromptu photo shoot of an Adventure Beanie, available from WormeWoole here. The light was so beautiful and I couldn’t have asked for a better backdrop than the pristine water and dappled beach.

{Adventure Beanies} Hand knit by me from a luxurious wool / alpaca blend, the Adventure Beanie is sure to become a wardrobe staple and your go-to accessory. Available in many colors here.
Adventure Beanies are long enough to wear slouchy, or you can roll up the cuff for a more traditional fit. The ribbed pattern is very stretchy and fits all sizes of heads. Wool is naturally breathable, known for being warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Alpaca adds richness and is more hypo-allergenic than wool, making items softer and less itchy.
When we got home, I stitched a custom-requested, upcycled cashmere, patchwork scarf. My wise customer asked for a scarf in all shades of blue to wear with jeans this winter.

{Denim Shades} The Blue Jean scarf is completed and sent to the customer. More cashmere patchwork scarves available in my shop.
The colors are so beautiful and the cashmere so soft… and they remind me of the blue lake water we left behind until next year.
Lovely! My happy place is also at the beach! The Pacific Ocean, at Cannon Beach Oregon. I live about two hours from there and I’m planning a trip in October! Yay!!! (visiting from CAST team blog blitz thread)
Yay for you! We lived in Hawaii for 14 years and I am afraid I took the beach for granted a bit. Now the Great Lakes are as close a substitute as I can get for the ocean and I miss it. They are vast and beautiful but not the same!
Makes me long for the New Jersey shore – my magic place. That looks like the perfect spot to dream away a restful week or two. Good for photo shoots too.
I have never been there, sammysgrammy. Maybe one day!
